Foundation Credit Union Suggests DIY Projects That Don’t Break The Bank

Take part in the fun of a DIY project that does not overload your bank account. DIY projects are fun, therapeutic, and downright unique. DIY solo or with a group of friends in today’s blog by Foundation Credit Union, where we suggest a few fun DIY projects that don’t break the bank.

Create A Book Safe:

A book safe is essential for storing your items like money, jewelry, or cute trinkets in a unique way: These are the materials you will need for this project:

  • An old book
  • A ruler
  • A pen
  • A sharp box cutter

Take the ruler and measure out the length and width of your book safe. After you have drawn out your measurements, take the box cutter and cut the inside edge of your book. Empty the loose paper pieces, and voila, your box safe is complete.

Decorative CardBox Holder

Cardboard boxes are helpful for more than just packaging. Take an old cardboard box and decorate it into something nice for storage with a creative twist. These are the materials you will need for this project:

  • A cardboard box
  • Hot Glue
  • Yarn

This simple process requires warm glue to wrap and stick your yard around the cardboard box. Wind the yarn tightly around the box pressing firmly (but not too firmly) to get the thread to attach. Slowly wrap the string around the box, leaving no spaces in between your rows. Once you have reached the end, you now have a cute storage box for anything you wish to keep safe. Add flowers or glitter for an added effect to your box.

Sweatshirt Watercolors:

Revamp your old t-shirt or sweatshirt for this super fun and innovative watercolor project. Forget about tossing that dull-looking shirt; make it bold, vibrant, and brand new with bright watercolor paint. These are the materials you will need for this project:

  • Watercolor dye kit
  • A paintbrush
  • A cup
  • A plate
  • A sponge

The first step is to lay out your sweatshirt on an excellent surface like the floor and place a protective barrier between the material and the bottom to prevent staining or damage to the area. Wet your sponge with water and lightly dampen an area of the shirt you wish to decorate with watercolor.

You can be as creative or straightforward as you’d like in this process. Take your paintbrush and mix the watercolor around to create a colorful hue. Pinks, purples, blues, and greens are a great mix.

Dip your paintbrush in your watercolor mixture and start painting the dampened areas of your sweatshirt. Lay the shirt to dry, and voila, you have a new and improved watercolor sweatshirt.
